San
Jose Gurdwara History
San
Jose gurdwara was founded in the 1984. As a result of
expanding South Bay Sikh community, there was a need for local
gurdwara. After many years, in face of various obstacles, the
determination of the Sangat won and the dream of a prestigious
local gurdwara seemed reality when gurudwara committee settled
on the majestic forty acres nestled in the Evergreen Hills of
San Jose. The land was purchased for $2.2 million. Due to
funding arrangements, it was decided to split the construction
into two phases.Starting in 1999, the construction for first
phase was completed in August 2004. Around 12 million dollars
were spent in first phase. The second phase began in October
2007 that has just been completed in April 2011 for a total
cost of 20 million.
